A ministerial delegation visits Cosylab to explore the AMID project up close

Leon Korošec underlined how important it is for Slovenia that its deep-tech companies compete successfully at the cutting edge of deep-tech and medical solutions

On 14 September 2026, Cosylab welcomed a delegation of representatives from two Slovenian ministries, who came to learn in detail about AMID, Cosylab’s project within the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) framework, specifically a Tech4Cure initiative, dedicated to healthcare. The visit brought policymakers face-to-face with the technology and the people building the next generation of AI-supported radiotherapy.

From the Slovenian Ministry of the Economy, Labour and Sport, the delegation included Leon Korošec, State Secretary for Economy; Nena Dokuzov, national coordinator for IPCEI in the field of Health; Tjaša Rotar Kokalj, State Secretary responsible for the operational delivery of IPCEI project applications; Matej Novak, contract manager for the AMID project; and Matej Skočir, Acting Director of the Internationalisation Directorate. The representative from the Ministry of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development was Rok Šimenc, State Secretary responsible for cohesion policy.

The visitors were welcomed with a presentation delivered by Dr Mark Pleško, CEO, together with Dr Kristjan Anderle, chief scientific lead on the project, and Igor Verstovšek, AI programme manager at Cosylab. The three walked the delegation through the core technologies behind AMID and Cosylab’s expertise in radiotherapy and artificial intelligence, showing how the two disciplines come together to make cancer treatment more precise, more adaptive, and more widely accessible.

Leon Korošec underlined how important it is for Slovenia that its deep-tech companies compete successfully at the cutting edge of deep-tech and medical solutions and hold their own against the strongest players internationally. Nena Dokuzov highlighted how Cosylab’s involvement has given Slovenia greater confidence in proposing Slovenian companies as direct partners in other IPCEI projects. She pointed to AMID as an example of the quality that helped Tech4Cure secure approval in just four months.

A lively debate followed, starting with the project’s technical foundations and moving on to what it means for cancer patients and for Slovenia’s position in advanced medical technology.

We were delighted to host the delegation, and we look forward to continuing this work together with our partners and with the institutions supporting Europe’s ambitions in health technology!
